Please help us welcome Taylor Griffith, PGA to the Carthage Golf Community. Taylor will be our dedicated PGA Teaching Professional beginning March 2019. Taylor will offer a variety of instruction packages, clinics and seminars at Carthage Golf Course. Taylor brings a wealth of teaching and playing knowledge to our facility. Over the next several weeks we will be introducing Taylor’s instruction packages and all of the services he will offer as part of Griff’s Golf Academy. We are very excited to have Taylor on our team at Carthage Golf Course!

Taylor Griffith was born and raised in Carthage, MO. As a child, Taylor spent all of his time at the golf course, practicing, playing, and learning from anyone that would entertain his questions. As Taylor got older, he began entering junior tournaments and quickly realized that his love for the game extended beyond casual weekend rounds. As a sophomore in high school, Taylor qualified for the varsity golf team, and by his senior year their team won the conference and district tournaments and took 2nd at the state championship. Following high school Taylor signed to play golf at Southern Nazarene University, qualifying for the NAIA national championship in 2008, and then transferred to Missouri Southern State University for his final two years of college eligibility.

Following college, Taylor worked at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club in Joplin, MO, as the assistant golf professional for six years. There he began giving golf lessons and learned under the supervision of PGA Professional Doug Adams. Throughout his career, Taylor also received golf lessons and learned about golf instruction from Lowell Catron, high school golf coach, Mark Peterson, PGA, Rick Grayson, PGA, and Rick Neal, PGA. In 2016, after four years of hard work, Taylor was elected to the PGA of America as a Class A PGA member. Later that year Taylor accomplished a life-long dream and qualified for the 2017 PGA Professional Championship.

For the last two years, Taylor has been traveling the country and playing full-time professional golf. In addition to his playing career, Taylor is excited to partner with Carthage Golf Course as their new teaching professional. Griff’s Golf Academy will offer personalized golf instruction in a modern and unique way. The experience that Taylor has gained as a successful high school and college athlete, as well as a full-time playing professional, will be invaluable to students of all playing levels.

Please help me congratulate Jordan Burks! Jordan is the 2018 CMGA Player of the Year. Jordan earned victories in the 2018 CMGA Stroke Play and 2018 CMGA Match Play Championships. He took two very strong fields in both events. Great playing Jordan. A good picture of Jordan with his dad.

Please help me congratulate Jim Gourley! Jim is the 2018 CMGA Senior Player of the year. Jim’s victory at the 2018 CMGA Net Match Play Championship helped him earn the top honor for seniors in the CMGA. Jim is always smiling…just like the picture.

We are closed on Thanksgiving Day so that our staff may enjoy the holiday with their friends and family. The forecast looks pretty good for Thanksgiving. You are welcome to come out and walk off the Thanksgiving feast. Please be courteous and respectful to all golfers on the course.

It is too early for a golf snow day! These snow days give golf industry professionals an opportunity to catch up on some normal business practices that typically can get pushed to the side during the go-go go of the golf season. Business planning for the 2019 season, research of various marketing opportunities, review of successful and not so successful 2018 activities…on and on and on. This all takes place primarily in our “off-season”. It is great to get that started but it is just too soon for snow. It does also allows me to bring my Chocolate Lab, Cleo, to the course. She is queen of the course on these days!

We went all over the course. Just a few pictures from today. I will have a lot more if we have more snow days. Cleo would like snow until March. That is where Cleo and I disagree.

I know where we are going …hurry up!

This is a great day to have the Tri-State Area Contractors Association at Carthage Golf Course for their Fall event. A fun golf day will be had by all!

High school golfers and parents of high school golfers please take advantage of the College Golf Recruiting Information Session hosted by the Kansas City Golf Association. Coaches from Kansas State, UMKC, Central Missouri, Rockhurst and others will be on hand to speak about college golf. The emphasis will be on the recruiting process and what you can do to make the most of it.

Congratulations Carthage Girls Golf team…. a great 2018 season!

We cant wait to see 2019.

The CarBrook matches were held the weekend of October 13th and 14th this year. The CarBrook matches are a friendly match between the Carthage Men’s Golf Association and the Men of Briarbrook. The teams are determined by qualifying through the respective Club Championships each year. Previous years had the matches being played both days at one site. This year the first day of Four Ball matches were held at Briarbrook and the second day Singles matches were held at Carthage. Next year Carthage will have the Four Ball matches and Briarbrook will have the Singles matches.

Our CMGA members participating had a blast. The weather was a little sour but that did not take away from the fun friendly competition had by all.
